How to Create Your UnitedHealthcare Account

Before you begin, locate your UnitedHealthcare member ID card. Your Member ID number is printed on the front of the card and is required to complete registration.
1

Visit activate.uhc.com

Open your preferred web browser and navigate to activate.uhc.com. Make sure you are on the official UnitedHealthcare site — look for the padlock icon in your browser’s address bar confirming a secure connection.
2

Click 'Register' or 'Create Account'

On the homepage, locate and click the Register or Create Account button. This will take you to the new member registration page where you can begin setting up your online profile.
3

Enter Your Member ID

Type in your Member ID exactly as it appears on your insurance card. This number uniquely identifies your plan and is used to link your online account to your coverage. Double-check for any typos before proceeding.
4

Fill In Your Personal Details

Provide the personal information requested to verify your identity. This typically includes:
  • Full legal name (as it appears on your insurance card)
  • Date of birth
  • ZIP code associated with your plan
All fields are required and must match the information on file with UnitedHealthcare.
5

Create a Username and Strong Password

Choose a unique username that you will use every time you sign in. Then create a strong password that meets the site’s security requirements. Your password should be something memorable to you but difficult for others to guess.
A strong password is at least 12 characters long and includes a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters (e.g., @, #, !). Avoid using your name, birthdate, or common words. Consider using a password manager to store it securely.
6

Verify Your Email Address

Enter a valid email address that you have regular access to. UnitedHealthcare will send a verification email to this address. Open the email and click the confirmation link to verify your address and activate your account registration.
7

Complete Security Questions or Two-Factor Setup

For added account security, you may be prompted to set up security questions or enable two-factor authentication (2FA). If 2FA is available, it is strongly recommended — it adds a second layer of protection by requiring a code sent to your phone or email each time you sign in from a new device.
8

Log In to Your New Account

Once registration is complete, click Sign In and enter your newly created username and password. You will be taken to your personalized member dashboard, where you can immediately begin exploring your benefits, checking your UCard balance, reviewing claims, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Member ID is printed on the front of your UnitedHealthcare insurance card, which is typically mailed to you when your coverage begins. If you cannot find your physical card, you may be able to locate your Member ID in a welcome letter or enrollment confirmation email from UnitedHealthcare. If you still cannot find it, contact UnitedHealthcare member services directly and a representative can assist you in locating your ID before you register.
An email address is required to create your online account at activate.uhc.com. It is used to verify your identity during registration, receive important account notifications, and enable you to reset your password if you ever get locked out. If you do not currently have an email address, you can create a free one through providers such as Gmail, Outlook, or Yahoo before beginning the registration process.
The registration process typically takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete, depending on how quickly you can locate your Member ID and personal information. The most time-sensitive step is verifying your email address — the confirmation email is usually delivered within a few minutes, but may occasionally take up to 15 minutes. Check your spam or junk folder if you do not see it in your inbox.
